Born in St Elizabeth JA, in 1952, Carl started his musical career sharing vocals with Al Brown in the Volcanoes in 1965. At the beginning of the seventies he joined Big Relations, alongside Jo Jo Bennet and recorded his first tune with Coxsone Dodd at Studio One: Father Free Us. Next, with producer Rupie Edwards he recorded Make It When You Try. Between 1973 and 1975 he recorded several hit singles with Skin, Flesh & Bones for the Impact label, earning considerable succes in the UK: No Jestering was the first, followed by Miss Wire Waist and his biggest seller, Fattie Bum Bum (which reached No. 3 in UK hitparade). Top DJ Big Youth also recorded a splendid version on the No Jestering riddim for the Impact label, called Natty No Jester. Recently, Carl started recording again for Impact and released Man a Plan, again produced by Clive Chin and Hippy Boys/Upsetters organist Glen Adams.
