John Holt - For the Love of You (E.Isley/M.Isley/O.Isley/C.Jasper)

John Holt - Love You To Want Me (Lobo)

Reissue, original 1975
Matrix AB 3175

Born in Kingston JA in 1947, John was already singing at age 12. The second half of the sixties he was part of the legendary Paragons, and scored solo hits like Ali Baba, Tonight and I See Your Face. The original 1975 song by the Isley Brothers is already a beautifull tune, but John Holt´s rendition of For the Love of You, backed by the In-Crowd band, is heartbreaking and spine chillling. Later, John would move to Joe Joe Hookim's Channel One and record Up Park Camp. For the Love of You was deservingly included on Blood & Fire 's top-notch Darker than Blue compilation. The flipside is a cover of Lobo´s soft-rock perennial Love You To Want Me. Simply essential if you like soulfull reggae.
